Oak Health Center Now Offers Revolutionary TMS Therapy for Treatment-Resistant Depression

Patients are now being accepted for TMS Therapy at the Laguna Hills and Fullerton locations.

Laguna Hills, California – December 9, 2023  –

Oak Health Center, Southern California’s premier comprehensive mental health outpatient care organization, proudly announces the public launch of its Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) program, offering a natural and effective alternative for individuals seeking treatment for depression and related conditions. Unlike traditional methods, TMS offers robust results with minimal side effects.

The TMS program will be led by Dr. Jonathan Lee. Dr. Lee completed his fellowship at the Temerty Centre for Therapeutic Brain Intervention at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in Toronto, Ontario, studying under the tutelage of Drs. Daniel Blumberger and Jeff Daskalakis. Drs. Blumberger and Daskalakis were responsible for obtaining FDA-clearance of theta-burst stimulation, a brief, 3-minute form of TMS, for the treatment of depression through their landmark study published in the Lancet in 2018. Dr. Lee came to the US on a Melania Trump Visa on the basis of his publication record and expertise in the delivery of TMS in clinical and research contexts and worked as the assistant director of the Neuromodulation Division at UCLA where he developed TMS protocols and algorithms to enhance patient outcomes. His research on improving TMS treatment outcomes in depression has been featured in Journal of Affective Disorders, and Brain Stimulation.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation is a natural treatment backed by numerous clinical studies, demonstrating its efficacy in resolving depression, even in cases unresponsive to medications and therapy. During TMS therapy, targeted magnetic pulses are directed at the prefrontal cortex, regulating mood and promoting neural plastic change.

There are a number of key benefits of TMS. 1) Minimal Side Effects: Clinical trials show that side effects are generally mild, with rare occurrences of severe effects that dissipate quickly. 2) Long Lasting Results: 60-80% of people show significant improvement in depressive symptoms with TMS and two-thirds of people who benefit hold onto that benefit a year out. 3) Safe & Non-Invasive: FDA cleared, covered by most insurance plans, and can be used with or without other treatments. No anesthesia or sedation is required, and patients can resume normal activities immediately after treatment. 4) Positive Improvements: Patients often experience better mood, improved sleep, increased energy, and enhanced coping skills.

Sessions last approximately 30 minutes, with 5 treatments a week for 6-9 weeks recommended for optimal results. Oak Health Center encourages patients to view their sessions as a form of self-care, providing a dedicated time for relaxation and personal well-being.

Oak Health Center offers TMS services at their Laguna Hills and Fullerton locations. To schedule an appointment, call the Fullerton office at 714-706-0206 or the Laguna Hills office at 949-258-3741. Email inquiries should be sent to [email protected].
